Das zweiwertige Mithril-Kation (Ml2+) ist ein starkes Oxidationsmittel, das u.a. Iodid zu Iodat und Braunstein zu Permanganat oxidiert.

Dies ist eine Konsequenz des extrem edlen Charakters des Metalls, dessen Standard-Redoxpotential bei +2.0 Volt liegt.
